20150909_111720[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Rice Producers Association Action Committee led by political activists Jinnah Rahaman and Turhane Doerga are of the view that Agriculture Minister, Noel Holder should provide a detailed explanation on the roles and functions of Jagnarine Singh within the Guyana Rice Development Board (GRDB) or resign from his portfolio.

The duo made the call at a press conference on Wednesday, September 09 where they pointed out that Jagnarine is still signing contracts on behalf of the Guyana government although having resigned some two months ago.

Rahaman said that there should be a clear statement from the government on whether Singh was given permission from the President to act on behalf of the government and if not; the Agriculture Minister should be sacked.

It was also noted that appointments on the GRDB Board by the new government have been political rather than professional, which deviates from the position of the Coalition prior to the elections.

“The government cannot do what they want …that secrecy thing, we have a problem with it…we don’t want to be mislead anymore” said Doerga.

The Action Committee is also blaming the current state of rice in Guyana on the People’s Progressive Party who they claim still runs the Agriculture Ministry through the Permanent Secretary George Jarvis.

“Same thing we did to the PPP, we will do to this coalition,” Doerga stated.

As a solution to the current issues facing the sector, the Committee is proposing that the government set up an Agricultural and Industrial Development Bank and a Stabilisation Fund.
