Republic Park resident remanded for possession of illegal gun

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Shawn James, a father of 2, accused of the possession of firearm without being the holder of a firearm license was remanded to prison by Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

The court heard that James of Lot 38 Republic Park, East Bank Demerara on November 20, 2015 at 14 Miles, Bartica, Cuyuni River, had in his possession one Smith and Wesson .9mm pistol without being the holder of a firearm license.

He pleaded not guilty to the offense and cccording to the Attorney for the accused, on the day in question ranks acting on information went to a camp at the said location where the accused was working.

After a thorough search in the said camp, persons fled from the scene and nothing was found in his client’s possession. However, the Prosecution said that after a further search was done in another camp where the accused was found all alone, the weapon was found inside his pants pocket.

He was arrested and then charged with the offense. Bail was denied and he is scheduled to make his next court appearance on December 07.
