[www.inewsguyana.com] – Donald Ramotar has been confirmed as the Presidential Candidate for the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) as Guyanese prepare to go to polls on May 11.

The decision was made last week according to General Secretary, Clement Rohee, who told a news conference on Monday, January 26 that “Ramotar is the only Presidential Candidate; there is no other Presidential Candidate.”

A Prime Ministerial candidate however is yet to be chosen as there are reports that Sam Hinds will be replaced.

Ramotar is responsible for the country’s first minority government as the Opposition has the upper hand in the National Assembly.

When asked to justify choosing Ramotar again as the Presidential Candidate, since it is believed that he is the reason for the PPP losing a number of votes, Rohee said “well that’s an assumption, we’re not going to the elections with that kind of assumption.”

Meanwhile, when questioned, Rohee said that Guyanese should not be surprised if Former President Bharrat Jagdeo participates in the PPP’s election campaign or if he’s on the PPP’s ticket.

“Mr Jagdeo is an Executive and Central member of the Party. He is a member of the Party in good standing, a former President and he has made useful contributions. I don’t think it would surprise anyone for him to be part of the campaign and for him to be on our list,” Rohee told Reporters.

Rohee said the PPP is yet to finalise its list of candidates for the top posts.

  1. I do Hope they are not re-elected and to have Jagdeo around with all mess he has created? God help Guyana. It is a shame that the Prime Minister cannot be named as yet. What Guyana needs are Educated leaders. Mr.Samuel Hinds why not run as a Independent and take this country forward. I am sure there are a few in the Civic as well as the PPP and PNC who are tired of playing politics and are ready to lead this Country. So why not come together and do so.

  5. Guyana need a very strong Prime Minister, and the most qualify person for that position is no other than Dr. Jagdeo. Bear in mind in the absence of the President, the Prime Minister automatically become President (acting). Should the doctor become the next Prime Minister, then I personally will be doing a citizen arrest, and arrest the known phantom member/killer ANDREW.
Andrew, you must go to jail for your crime. We will ensure Guyana continue to grow and develop. Coalition or not PPP will get their 53% on may 11 2015.
