[www.inewsguyana.com] – Hundreds of visitors and school children turned out on Tuesday (March 4) to get a glimpse and a feel of the Queen’s Baton which passed through the Region 9 Village of Aishalton.
This, the Baton’s last official stop in Guyana before it heads to Trinidad and Tobago, saw it travel through many trails, visiting some of the vast Amerindian Culture locally.
Upon receving the Baton, Region 9 Chairman Douglas Casimerolauded the work of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) for assuring that his village be a part of history
“We in Aishalton are happy to be a part of this historic event which has seen the baton of the Queen pass through our Village,” Casimero said.
In his address, President of the G.O.A. K.A. Juman Yassin stated that they are looking to develop sport in that area by firstly cooperating with the Regional Democratic Council and other stakeholders.
The region was chosen due to a UNICEF Project in the area and according to UNICEF’s Representative Marianne Flach, the Aishalton School represents one of the organization’s success stories in Guyana.
The Baton will depart Guyana today, Wednesday March 5.
