Providence man shot in early morning robbery

An East Bank Demerara man is now nursing a gunshot injury to his left leg after he was shot by one of three men during a robbery at the corner of Cemetery Road and D’Urban Street, Georgetown in the wee hours of Wednesday.

robberyThe injured man has been identified as Mark English, 31, of Lot 992 Providence, East Bank Demerara. He is reportedly in a stable condition following emergency surgery.

Based on reports received, at about 02:30h, English stopped at a shop to make a purchase and was confronted by the three men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The armed perpetrator relieved him of $30,000.

During the confrontation, English put up a fight and was shot to the left leg by the bandit who was carrying the firearm. The injured man managed to drive to a city hospital where he was admitted and the matter reported. No one has been arrested as Police continue their investigations.
