Private Sector to strengthen trade relations with European countries

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Trade between Caricom and European countries are expected to increase tremendously, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Chamber of Commerce of French Guiana and the Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce (CAIC).

The signing was done today, Thursday October, 02 at the Private Sector Commission’s Boardroom in the presence of the PSC’s President, Ramesh Persaud; Member of CIAC, Ramesh Dookhoo; French Ambassador to Caricom, Michel Prom and officials of the Chamber of Commerce of French Guiana.

The Caribbean Association of Industry and Commerce has taken the lead role in facilitating additional business opportunities between the region and Europe.

As such, both sides will identify 20 businesses in their respective countries that would like to do business in the region, the sectors they are most interested in and the information will be disseminated to the affiliates of the CAIC to bring the businesses together to do business.

Dookhoo said the MoU will be established on trade and economic co-operation to promote, facilitate and expand effective co-operation in the field of trade promotion, investment promotion, international relations, and exchange of market information, technology transfer, capacity exchanges and general economic briefing.

Dookhoo added that the objective of the MOU is to foster trade, economic and industrial relations between the two sides. It is also aimed at fostering the business community and co-operation.

Meanwhile, Alex Madeleine, second Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce Industry of French Guiana, speaking through an interpreter explained that, “it is an honour to have this partnership with CIAC, as it is the only private organization that is accredited to act at the regional level of the Caribbean, thanks to all the contacts that we can have in this region, we will be able to reach partners in Trinidad, Jamaica, and others.”

The French group will also be visiting the GuyExpo this evening to explore additional business opportunities that can be fostered from here and will be presenting their countries economic strides
