President leads Cabinet inspection of destroyed Georgetown Prison

President David Granger earlier today (Tuesday) led a team of Government Ministers  to the destroyed Georgetown Prison where they had a first-hand look at the extent of the damage to the penitentiary due to the July 9th prison unrest.

INews will provide a more detail report later on the Cabinet’s visit to the facility and if possible, what policy decisions were made in relation to reconstruction efforts etc.

Meanwhile, according to the Department of Public Information (DPI), Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels has confirmed that there are Eight (8) fugitives on the run. He also confirmed that One (1) escapee was recaptured. It is now confirmed that Nine (9) prisoners escaped on Sunday.

Mark Royden Durant aka Royden Williams
Stafrei Hopkenson Alexander

The Guyana Police Force will issue Wanted Bulletins for the other 5 fugitives shortly.
