[www.inewsguyana.com] – The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) has rejected a conditionality proposed by APNU/AFC for the hosting of the Presidential Debate in the run up to elections.

The Opposition had said it would have to reconsider the Presidential Debate if the PPP refuses to have a similar debate between the two Prime Ministerial candidates, Moses Nagamootoo and Elisabeth Harper.

The PPP in a statement on Sunday, April 19 made it clear that such a debate between Harper and Nagamootoo would open the floor for unbridled attacks on its PM candidate, something that it was not willing to allow.

“This campaign of disrespect commenced with the most repugnant utterances from Moses Nagamooto against our Prime Ministerial candidate Ms. Elizebeth Harper during the Whim rally, held by the APMU/AFC Coalition, and has since been well orchestrated by the opposition’ campaign machinery along the same vein,” the PPP statement noted.

According to the ruling Party, “The women of the PPP/C, while not intimidated, will not allow themselves to be disrespected by the Opposition and their surrogates. It is for this reason that we view a public debate with Moses Nagamootoo as inappropriate, as he himself has been disrespectful and vile against Ms Harper and has shown no inclination to reverse or change this unacceptable course.”

The Party also said that the demands of APNU+AFC Coalition to open Harper further to the “bitter, rude and unbridled venom of disrespect from Moses Nagamooto in a Prime Ministerial debate is reprehensible.”

“We reject this demand and wish to state unambiguously, that our party will not attempt to dignify the callous contempt with which Moses Nagamootoo has sought to ridicule Mrs Harper and the personal hurtful and painful experiences of domestic violence she has exposed to the populace; with her participation in a debate with him,” the statement noted.

The ruling Party was adamant that President Donald Ramotar stands ready to engage the Presidential Candidate of the opposition coalition in a debate.

  1. Ms. Harper deserve to be attacked, she wants to be our next prime minister and she can talk down her opponent, what a spineless creature. She makes women look weak. Ms. Clinton would not have run away from this challenge, she would have stood up and fought back and let her voice be heard. Now this weak spineless woman is the kind of women the PPP/C want us to look up to in Guyana and emulate. Pleaseeee!

  2. plus how could anyone allow nagamoottoo to debate anyone…if this vulgar son of of an old bitch can tell his own grandson to kerr he so an so…he already attacked this woman through his favorite media house..yall want to hear he telling this woman to kerr she so an so?????

  3. PPP paid propagandists- this is the best you got? Posting using my name? I would say “shame on you”, but that is an understatement.

By the way, what qualifies Ramoutar as an Economist? His welding certificate from GTI? Do you know that Donald Ramoutar was among the top uneducated presidents in the world?

  4. any debate between moses nagamootoo and mrs harper would be like an argument between a wise man and a madman.

  5. And this Lady who was not afraid to step into the public lights as Prime minister is now afraid to have a debate about how she plans to run this country should Mr. Ramotar not able to do so. Right there, she has lost my respect, right there. She don’t have the backbone and guts to go up against Nagamootoo and the PPP/C asking women to vote for this spineless lady. Pleaseee as least show you got some woman power and/or fight in you Ms. harper.

  6. Granger the soldier is afraid to debate the Economist so the PNC came up with a decrepit excuse. On the other hand, one should not expect a debate between a Morally bankrupt man and an upright lady. This little man is on the insanity trail.
When Nagamootoo speak at the Linden rally he admit to the Rigged Elections by his PNC/AFC party. Please Google:
“Burnham and Jagan: At a Linden meetingNagamootoo talked of Rigged Elections” and hear for yourself.

  7. there must be one debate and that debate must take place at the polling stations all across guyana on election with a marked ballot..any debate will be a waste of time..what else can ppp or pnc tell guyanese that they are not telling them on the campaign trail ..pnc will pack the thing with their trial lawyers…pnc supporters will break down doors to get in to chant and drown out ppp…pnc are a lawless bunch of people..
