Police working assiduously to solve murder of West Ruimveldt man- Hicken

As investigations continue into the murder of 29-year-old Paul Rodney who was gunned down yesterday morning, Police “A” Division Commander, Clifton Hicken, has stated that based on the information gathered, they have identified one of two suspects.

Hicken informed Inews that since last night, five homes in Georgetown were searched by law enforcement officials for the suspect. However, no one has been apprehended up to press time.

Hicken also disclosed that footage from the crime scene was gathered and in being used to assist in the investigations.

Rodney also called “Shirts” of lot 530 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown was found dead on Avocado Square, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown at approximately 02:45hrs yesterday morning.

A previous report by Inews indicated that the man’s body was riddled with bullets by two men on a motorcycle. Rodney fell unconscious on the road, and was discovered by police who were in close vicinity.

The West Ruimveldt man was subsequently pronounced dead while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

According to the Rodney’s uncle, Derick Rodney, he received the news around 04:35 hrs yesterday morning. He noted that after making several inquiries, he was able to establish that his nephew was at function in the East Ruimveldt area when he was involved in an altercation.

The dead man’s uncle said that he was told that during the altercation, Rodney tried to escape the clutches of the men, but they opened fire.

While relatives of the dead man have indicated that they have no knowledge of Rodney being involved in criminal activities, the police have claimed that he [Rodney] is a known character to them and has had several brushes with the law. (Ramona Luthi)
