Police unearth over 1.2 kilos of cannabis in separate incidents

Police say they have apprehended a passenger travelling to Georgetown from New Amsterdam, Berbice in a hire car about 16:00hrs on Friday at Profit Public Road, West Coast Berbice, with three hundred and fifty-four grams of cannabis in a bag found in his possession.
He is being processed for court.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident ranks conducting random searches for illegal items on passengers travelling to Suriname (via back track) at #78 Village, Corentyne, Berbice yesterday, came up empty.
However, shortly after the departure of a vessel en-route to Suriname, the ranks found three boxes in close proximity abandoned with a total of eight hundred and ninety-four grams of cannabis.
According to the police the Cannabis was lodged and while no arrests were made, investigations are in progress.
