Police destroy almost $50M worth of seized cocaine

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force Narcotics Branch, earlier today, destroyed 55.2 kilograms of cocaine with an estimated street value of $49.7 million dollars. The drugs were seized over a period of time during which the branch conducted various anti-narcotic exercises.

Narcotics officer Superintendent Leon Lewis informed the media that the cases responsible for this quantity of cocaine includes a case on the 19th of March 2015 where 40 kilos of cocaine was found in bucket bottoms at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport and another case where six kilograms of cocaine was found liquefied and placed into El Dorado 5-year-old rum bottles to be exported to the United States.
The cocaine was destroyed in the Atlantic Ocean. Below are some scenes captured by INews Photographer Carl Croker before the Police vessel departed the Marine Station in Ruimveldt shortly after noon today.
