Plumber charged for illegal possession of police property

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 20 – year – old plumber was fined $30,500 by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry for having a police stamp badge in his possession.

Denzel Campton McDonald pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge, which stated that on Wednesday, April 22 at Georgetown, he had in his possession one Guyana Police Force (GPF) stamp badge.

The unrepresented man told the court that he was drinking with some police friends and one of them had the badge on his belt. He added that the said officer gave him to hold and he placed same in his pocket and forgot about it.

According to McDonald, they parted ways and on the day in question, two Criminal Investigation Department (CID) ranks saw him and said he was acting in a suspicious manner.

The convict said the officers stopped him and carried out a search on his person while he was heading to Eve Leary to return the badge to the officer.

A default in paying the fine will result in three months imprisonment.
