A Pensioner on Monday told the Chief Magistrate to legalise it after he was slapped with a possession of narcotics charge.

John Lovell, 68, of Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD) denied that he had 1361 grams of cannabis in his possession for the purpose of trafficking.

The narcotics were reportedly found hidden in a haversack which he was carrying.

However, the defendant pleaded for bail and in his application told Magistrate Ann McLennan that is it the 21st century and Guyana needs to legalise marijuana.

He was however, remanded to prison to reappear on August 7, 2018 at the Matthews Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
