Pensioner killed in Providence accident

An 86-year-old man was on Monday night killed after he was hit by a car on the Providence Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

The dead man has been identified as Neville Williams of New Scheme, Herstelling, EBD.

According to police reports, the motorcar – PYY 114 – was proceeding south along eastern lane of the eastern carriageway on Providence Public Road, around 21:30h when the driver claims that the now dead man walk across the road into the path of his motor car. Due to the close distance, the driver said the front left side of his motor car collided with Williams.

As a result of the collision, Williams fell onto the roadway where he received injuries about his body. He was picked up in a conscious condition by the said driver and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His body is presently at the GPHC mortuary awaiting a Post Mortem.

Meanwhile, a breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver but there were no trace of alcohol found in his system. Nevertheless, he is presently in custody as police continue their investigations.
