Pedestrian killed in accident at Mc Doom

48-year-old Dexter Thomas of Haslington, of East Coast Demerara (ECD) was on Friday killed in an accident, which occurred around 17:30h on the Mc Doom Public Road, East Bank Demerara, involving minibus BWW 6110, whose driver has been identified Troy Arthur of Linden.

Based on information reaching this publication, Thomas was standing on the Mc Doom road, which at the time had two lanes of traffic proceeding south. He then proceeded to cross the road from east to west and stopped at a concrete median.

At this juncture Athur’s minibus, BWW 6110, was approaching north and as it got closer the pedestrian allegedly ran across the road and into the path of the Arthur, who upon seeing him, took evasive action by applying brakes and swerving further west.

However, the left front of the minibus reportedly came into contact with the pedestrian and as a result of swerving, the right side front of the minibus collided with another minibus, BNN 3796, which was proceeding north on the western side of the road.

Following the accident, Thomas reportedly fell onto the road surface and received injuries about his body.

He was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was treated for head injuries and a broken right leg.

Thomas later died while receiving additional treatment.

His body is currently at the Georgetown Public Hospital Mortuary awaiting a postmortem examination.

Police are currently investigating the fatal accident.
