[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former Prime Minister under the People’s National Congress (PNC) administration, Hamilton Green believes that the Opposition will be victorious at the May 11 polls if A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and the Alliance For Change (AFC) were to join forces.
While he does not agree with the word “coalition”, the Georgetown Mayor believes that a strong “partnership” will put the ruling People’s Progressive Party (PPP)) out of office.
He however does not believe that the APNU should give up its leadership at this time. During his appearance on the radio programme ‘Hard Talk’ aired on 90.1 Love FM, Mayor Green said, “Both sides must recognize the evil group we’re dealing with. The corruption is known. We have an enemy of corruption, evil misdeeds to deal with… A Partnership is necessary to win the elections.”
The Mayor is of the view that the race card should not be an issue for this election.
“I, myself have hope that by now, it [race] would not be important. Apparently it is still. It’s unfortunate because we need to work on principles and not personalities.”
He reiterated that the APNU is not the PNC, “and that’s important to remember. APNU is an adventure into the future.”
The two Opposition parties are currently in discussion as it relates to forming a pre – democracy alliance before the May 11 elections.
