[www.inewsguyana.com] – The Ministry of Agriculture has been engaging rice farmers and millers across the rice growing regions over the past weeks with the aim of facilitating payments to farmers who were owed for rice during the last crop.
Farmers and millers were reportedly owed in excess of $300M in payment.
According to a statement from the Agriculture Ministry “such a process has been satisfactory and commencing Thursday, March 20 the Guyana Rice Development Board is working with millers to commence payment.”
It is the hope of the Ministry that by next week all farmers owed monies will be paid in full.
This Ministry of Agriculture says it would like to thank all millers who have complied with heeding to its request to pay farmers.
