The Progressive Youth Organization (PYO) has condemned the political opposition for what it said is their “anti development move” to vote down two critical pieces of legislation tied to the Amaila Falls Hydro Project.

They PPP’s youth arm is of the view that the opposition wants to turn the Parliament into a Casino.

During a press conference today, the youth arm of the Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) called on the opposition to end their game and gamble with the country’s development.

They also urged President Donald Ramotar and Cabinet Members to do all that is possible to ensure the project is realized.

PYO Member Romel Roopnarine noted that the holding of Local Government Elections and the Amaila Falls hydro project are both critical projects to Guyana.

However, according to Roopnarine, the political opposition has no authority to decide what is best for youths and the country.

Roopnarine told reports that the organization will not sit idly by and allow the future of Guyana’s youths be destroyed by the reckless behaviour of the opposition.

Roopnarine pointed out that not only youths but a wide cross section of Guyanese are in favour of the hydro.

In this regard, he said the PYO is putting a plan in place on how they intend to deal with this issue at a higher level. [Akash Ramlackhan]
