[www.inewsguyana.com] – The People’s Progressive Party (PPP) says it is appalled that the political opposition did not congratulate the students who copped five of eight awards for the best regional performances at this year’s CSEC Exams.

PPP Parliamentarian, Kwame Gilbert told a news conference on Monday (October 28) that since the announcement of the regional awards were made, none of the political parties acknowledged how well Guyana did.

The PPP is of the view that this is a clear indication that the political parties are afraid of admitting the academic excellence that Guyana is capable of.

“Neither David Granger, Leader of the PNC/APNU, nor Khemraj Ramjattan, Leader of the AFC, nor a single member of the Joint Opposition, has deemed it necessary to issue a message of congratulations to these five outstanding Guyanese. Are they afraid that by acknowledging the academic excellence of these Magnificent Five, it would contradict the erroneously false misinformation they propagate, and would no longer be able to refer to our education system is disastrous and calamitous?”

According to Gilbert, the failure by the opposition to recognize the accomplishments demonstrates their intent to politicize the education system for political gains, without having any real interest for the development of the youths.
