Police say they are investigating a fatal accident which occurred around 21:00hrs last night (Tuesday) on the Waller’s Delight Public Road West Coast Demerara (WCD) that resulted in the death of pedestrian Mohamed Nazim ,44, of Waller’s Delight Reserve WCD and injury of his daughter-in-law Felicia Persaud, 30, of Diamond Housing Scheme East Bank Demerara.
The vehicle, a Jeep PTT 779, involved in the accident was driven by a 43-year-old resident of Meten-meer-Zorg WCD.
According to the Police, the vehicle which was proceeding east along the northern carriageway,allegedly at a fast rate, struck down the pedestrians who, along with other family members, were crossing the road from south to north.
In an unconscious state; Nazim and Persaud were rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital.
However, Nazim died while receiving medical attention and Persaud was treated and admitted in a stable and now conscious condition.
The driver who was tested and found negative for alcohol in his breath has since been detained and is assisting with the investigation.
