[www.inewsguyana.com] – A New Amsterdam (NA) Hospital nurse is currently battling for her life in the intensive care unit after she started to vomit blood shortly after consuming a mouthful of soda.

Twenty – four – year old Tameca Carter of Fort Ordnance on Wednesday, July 29 left a bottle of soda in the ‘ward five’ refrigerator before attending a funeral service. When Carter returned, she consumed a mouthful of the beverage and immediately felt a burning sensation in her stomach.

Hospital sources stated that not long after, the nurse collapsed and was admitted into the ICU where she began vomiting blood. Doctors tending to Carter confirmed that she was poisoned but it is unclear what type of poison was place in the drink.

Currently, policemen are investigating the situation and have been questioning several nurses. However, some nurses are reluctant to assist with the investigation.

Additionally, Carter’s family is calling on authorities to see that a proper investigation is conducted as they are looking for justice. A relative indicated to iNews that they are not satisfied with the response from the hospital, as they had expected Carter to undergo several tests but nothing of the sort is being done.

The family is considering moving the nurse to another health facility. According to reports, Minster of Health Dr. George Norton and Permanent Secretary (PS) Mr. Trevor Thomas have expressed disappointment of such act being committed in a medical fraternity.

Both the Minister and the PS are expected to pay a visit to the hospital in relation to the incident. Police investigations are continuing.
