Acting Police Commissioner, David Ramnarine has confirmed that notorious prison escapee Mark Royden Durant, aka Royden Williams and Smallie, was intercepted and recaptured this evening (Monday) at approximately 20:00hrs on the Weldaad, West Coast Berbice public road.
Durant was traveling in a public minibus heading east. He was reportedly traveling alone and unarmed.
In an attempt to mask his appearance, Williams got rid of his signature dreadlocks.
Believed to be the mastermind behind the July 9, Camp Street Prison uprising, fire and subsequent break, which resulted in the death of a prison officer, Williams along with a handful of other inmates escaped from confinement.
The Guyana Police Force has since been intensify its efforts to ensure that all the escapees are apprehend.
On September 1, escapee Uree Varswyck was killed in an exchange of gunfire with officers at Linden moments after being spotted with Williams.
Williams’ surviving accomplice, Cobena Stephens, called OJ, remains on the loose, along with Paul Goriah who escaped in a separate prison break at Lusignan.
