The Guyana Fire Service is currently investigating the circumstances that led to a fire at Lot 6971 Norton Street, Lodge, Georgetown, around 12:21am today.

Water tenders and carriers from the Central, West Ruimveldt, Campbellville, and Alberttown fire stations responded to the scene, where firefighters saw a one-storey wooden and concrete building engulfed in flames.

The building’s owner and occupier are unknown at this time.

Additionally, three buildings, all located on the northern side of the building of origin, were affected by radiated heat, resulting in damage to two walls, ceilings, guttering, pipes, four plastic tanks, a washing machine, and a television.

Three jets working from Water Tenders #85 and #105 tank supplies, along with a water relay from Water Carrier #16 and a water bowser, were used to extinguish the fire.

However, the building of origin and its contents were destroyed. Investigations are ongoing.
