Norton St man gets 4 years jail, $5.5M fine for ‘ganja’ possession

A 47-year-old Norton Street, Georgetown man was yesterday sentenced to prison and fined more than five million dollars when he appeared before Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, for being in possession of ‘ganja’.

Otis Halley was not required to plead to the indictable charge which alleged that on June 22, 2016, at Norton Street, Georgetown, he had in his possession 3.832kgs of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

After the prosecution provided their evidence, the Chief Magistrate expressed satisfaction towards the evidence against the accused and thus found him guilty of the offence.

Halley was sentenced to four years in prison  and fined $5.572M.
