North West resident remanded for chopping man

14 milesThirty – year – old Mervin George of North West District appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and pleaded not guilty to the charge of unlawful wounding.

It is alleged that on July 07 at 14 Miles, North West District he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Troy Daniels, causing actual bodily harm. The court heard that on July 07 at 14 Miles, North West District George and Daniels were consuming alcohol at two separate locations when an argument ensued between George and another man.

The Prosecutor disclosed that George went home and returned with a cutlass and mistook Daniels for the man he had the argument with and dealt him several chops about his body.

Daniels was air dashed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention. The Prosecutor objected to bail on the grounds that it is a serious offence. As such, the Magistrate remanded the accused and the matter was transferred to Mathews Ridge Magistrate’s court for August 06. [Royan Abrams]
