North Ruimveldt strikes late to win Guinness “Greatest in the Streets”

[www.inewsguyana.com] – North Ruimveldt scored late goals to defeat the Festival City Warriors 2-0 to become the new champions of the Georgetown Zone “Guinness Greatness in the Streets” futsal competition held on Sunday, December 14 at the National Park tarmac.

Festival City started hot creating chances early in the game as they played with great intensity to keep North Ruimveldt on the back foot as the first half ended nil all.

The second half was more of the same as North Ruimveldt quickening the tempo in search of goals. However, as overtime loomed, Gerald Gittens struck the back of the net for North Ruimveldt in the 37th minute that caused a raucous reaction from the crowd.

Travis Grant added insult to injury with a 39th minute goal to end the contest as the dejected look of the Festival City players told its own story.

Meanwhile, in the third pace play-off Leopold Street defeated Sparta Boss 2-1. Omallo Williams and Claudio Rajkumar were the goal scorers for Leopold Street while Sheldon Shepherd was the lone scorer for Sparta Boss.

Next year the national aspect of the tournament will be held in order to name the team that will represent Guyana at the Regional tournament.
