[www.inewsguyana.com] – Former President, Donald Ramotar says that the $2.5B lawsuit filed against him and several members of the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) is nothing more than “frivolous.”

Dr. Phillip Mozart Thomas filed the lawsuit in his capacity as Chairman of the Guyana National Council on Public Policy Inc. (GNCPP) and the Guyana National Civil Society Inc. Council (GNCSC).

Mozart is making claims for $2.5B against Ramotar, Irfaan Ali, Dr Roger Luncheon, Clement Rohee and two other private citizens. Reports indicate that Mozart is seeking damages for malicious interference and violation of chartered constitutional, civil and human rights; slander, libel, conspiracy to publish defamatory information, interference with economic relations, inducing breach of contract, nuisance, intimidation, defamation of character and false light invasion of privacy.

This is after a Civil Society conference planned for the Arthur Chung convention center in 2014 was called off due to some hurdles as it relates to payment for the center, as reported by the then government.

When contacted on Wednesday, October 21, Ramotar told iNews that the lawsuit has been sent to his Attorneys; however he does not believe that Dr Mozart has any grounds from what he has seen.

“I don’t think that this matter should be taken seriously…I don’t think he has any grounds. I think it’s just somebody seeking some publicity,” said Ramotar.

“I think what he has done is just frivolous – nonsense really,” the former President told iNews.

In December 2014, a press statement from the President’s Office had noted that “Mr. Phillip Mozart Thomas, the organiser behind the activity has been found to be of a shady character.”

“Further, it has been brought to the attention of the Office of the President that qualifications Mr. Thomas purports to possess are highly suspicious. Research has revealed that the institutions where Mr. Thomas purported to have received his qualifications are unknown institutions, and lack well established bona fides,” the statement had noted.

  1. This is absolutely ridiculous and a waste of tax payers money if it gets that far. Who is this Mozart idiot.

  2. This law suit is not schuppidee, like the concerted attacks for years of corruption, denigrating specific key individuals within the then PPP/C government, this is a calculating tactic to incapacitate the majority of personnel within the top level PPP structure from potentially occupying public office ever again !!! Is not schupidness !!!!! You think them military functionaries ain’t got sense ?
