[www.inewsguyana.com] – The newly reconstituted board of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CH&PA) will be allowed to function independently, and in pursuit of its publicly articulated goals and objectives, according to Minister of Communities Ronald Bulkan.

Addressing the exit workshop for the Government of Guyana/ Inter-American Development Bank (GOG/IDB) Second Low Income Settlement (LIS) Programme at the Regency Hotel, Hadfield Street, the Minister said that the board has been assured that the Government will have an input, but in the form of providing policy framework.

“Execution therefore, will be the job of the professionals,” he noted.

But whilst the new Board will not be submissive to political control, Minister Bulkan said that is it not expected to passively pursue its publicly stated goals and objectives.

Some of the major functions and issues that the Board will address will include enforcement of building regulations and building codes, as well as indiscriminate occupancy of state reserves.

Minister Bulkan said that the new Board has been reminded that on May 11, the people voted for change and that the administration had promised to provide a representative and a transparent and accountable government. The job of the Board is to support the delivery of those promises. [Extracted and modified from GINA]
