Motorcyclist hospitalised, taxi driver on the run following Versailles accident

A taxi driver is now on the run while a 50-year-old motorcyclist is in a serious condition at the Georgetown Public Hospital following a collision with the taxi driver’s motor car on the Versailles, West Bank Demerara public road on Monday evening.

The injured man has been identified as Doonauth Ramdeo of lot 140 Patentia, West Bank Demerara.

Based on information received, at around 21:15hrs, Ramdeo was travelling south on his motorcycle, while motor car HC 7046 was heading north. Inews understands that upon approaching the turn, the motorcycle and car collided and spun several times before ending up on the western side of the road, in the vicinity of the Guyana Power and Light’s power station’s entrance.

The motorcycle was pinned under the car which had also crashed into a signboard in the area.

During the accident, Ramdeo was reportedly flung several feet away and suffered significant head injuries.

According to police, no helmet was found at the scene.

The suspect reportedly fled the scene shortly after a crowd started to gather.

Public spirited persons rushed Ramdeo to the West Demerara Regional Hospital and he was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is currently a patient.
