Motorcycle bandits rob, kill Sophia businessman

Police are investigating the murder of Andre Alexander, 42, a self-employed businessman of lot 394 Section 4 Sophia, East Coast Demerara, who was shot in the stomach and robbed of an undisclosed amount of cash by two male suspects about 20:30hrs on Friday night at the said address where he operates a business selling bread.

According to the police, the victim was in his shop when the suspects approached on a motor cycle and the pillion rider requested three loaves of bread, paid with a $5000 note and whilst the victim was in the process of making change, the said bandit whipped out a handgun and demanded cash.

Alexander reportedly refused to facilitate their request and was shot. One of the bandits then relieved the businessman of his cash and they escaped on the motorcycle while discharging several rounds in the process.

The victim was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital in a conscious state but succumbed about 23:00hrs whilst receiving treatment.
Police report that no arrests have been made up to this point in time.
