Mother who tampered with ‘child support’ cheque apprehended

handcuffed_woman[www.inewsguyana.com] – A young mother of one was this morning taken into police custody at the Whim Police Station in Berbice after she allegedly defrauded the State by tampering with a cheque issued by Government through the Whim Magistrates’ Court.

iNews understands that the woman allegedly embezzled some $216,000 over a three month period.

Bhojwattie Ramnarine of No 60 Village would normally receive $8,000 monthly in maintenance or child support in the form of a cheque which goes to the Whim Magistrates’ Court by her former spouse; however, the woman allegedly tampered with the cheque by placing an extra zero at the end, making it out to be $80,000.

iNews understands that the discovery was made by the Bank. The woman, who is in her early 20s, was apprehended by the Police and remains in custody; she has since confessed to the crime and is expected to be charged shortly.
