[www.inewsguyana.com] – A mother of nine was placed on her own recognizance when she appeared before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court for selling a gold chain that does not belong to her.
Jocelyne Pickette of Crown Park Sophia, East Coast Demerara pleaded guilty to the charge but a not guilty plea was entered by the Chief Magistrate.
The Court heard that between October 5 – 6, 2010 at Sophia, Pickette was given a gold chain to keep, property of Burnette Smart but converted the chain to her own use.
When asked if she had anything to say for herself, the woman told the Court that she was in a relationship with the complainant and he gave her the chain.
She said after the relationship became sour, the complainant asked that she return his chain which she lost some time ago.
Prosecutor Bharrat Mangru had no objections to bail being granted to the accused and as a result the Chief Magistrate released the woman on self-bail.
