Money Changer plying trade on Water St robbed by armed bandits

A 51-year-old money changer was robbed in total of $400,000 by two bandits (one armed with a hand gun) on Water Street in the vicinity of the old KFC building.

According to information received, Wazir Khan of Anna Catherina, West Coast Demerara (WCD) was robbed of a mixture of pounds, TT, US and local currencies on Saturday morning around 8:10h.

This publication was told that Khan was plying his trade when he was approached by the two men.

The armed suspect reportedly pulled his firearm from his waist, pointed it at Khan and told him to hand over the money.

INews understands that the victim then threw away the money, but the unarmed accomplice quickly picked it up and they both escaped in a southern direction through the route 45 bus park.

Moreover, the victim told investigators that the suspect who was armed is known to him.

Police are currently investigating the matter.
