Minister of Education, Sonia Parag, this morning met with young author Maliha Thakurdyal at her Brickdam office.
Maliha is a Grade Five student of Cindy’s Academy and the author of “Kayla’s Pizza Party,” who has recently completed the second book in her series.
Maliha’s work centres on the core message of treating others the way you would like to be treated. During the meeting, she shared that her motivation for writing is to help instil strong moral values among children in Guyana, particularly highlighting the importance of teamwork and cooperation as areas where students continue to develop.
She was accompanied by her mother, Kaylani Thakurdyal, and presented copies of her book to the Minister.
The Minister was joined by Chief Education Officer, Mr. Saddam Hussain; Assistant Chief Education Officer – Literacy, Ms. Stembiso Grant; and Director of the National Centre for Educational Research and Development (NCERD), Ms. Omwattie Ramdin.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the establishment of a dynamic national writing camp designed to help young people express creativity while developing leadership and responsibility through storytelling.
The proposed camp is expected to engage approximately 30 children, offering them opportunities to strengthen their writing skills, creativity, confidence, and teamwork through a range of interactive activities.
Guided by the vision of His Excellency, Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali, the initiative focuses on developing young talent while promoting leadership and responsibility. It also aims to create a vibrant community of young writers, with opportunities for growth as participation expands.
