Minister Hastings-Williams to deliver CARICOM statement on women at UN

Minister within the Ministry of Communities, Dawn Hastings-Williams will lead Guyana’s delegation and deliver the Caribbean Community’s (CARICOM) statement at the United Nations 60th Session of the Commission of the Status of Women, according to a GINA press statement issued this morning.

Minister of Natural Resources, Raphael Trotman, addressing the post-Cabinet press briefing at the Ministry of the Presidency yesterday, said Minister Hastings-Williams will be accompanied by General Consultant within the Ministry of Social Protection, Hazel Halley-Burnett.

The conference will be held from March 14 to 24, 2016 at the UN headquarters in New York. It will review and discuss various themes including the elimination of all forms of violence against women.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Women’s Empowerment and its link to Sustainable Development.”

The main focus will be on the way forward after the historic adoption in September 2015 of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development Goals.
