A 48-year-old minibus driver was on Tuesday morning arraigned at the Lenora Magistrate’s Court after he allegedly verbally abused a passenger who was traveling in his minibus, BSS5193, after she requested that he drove slower.

David Lewis of Tuschen, East Bank Demerara was charged for having an overloaded minibus, speeding and misconduct.

According to reports, the passenger, a nurse- identified as Jeneal Lewis- claims that the driver was driving at a speed of 140mph, which frightened her.

As such, she said that she requested that Lewis slow down.

However, this reportedly angered the man, who began to boast of having some 23 years of driving experience without being involved in an accident.

He further allegedly told the young nurse that she can report the matter as he is not afraid of the Police.

At that point, the young lady requested that he stop the bus as she intended to discontinue her journey with him.

The nurse, in her complaint, said that it was then that Lewis told her “you are a very stupid girl. Same thing you frighten will kill you.”

Following the experience, the passenger made a social media post on Facebook where she not only pin-pointed the driver, but also his minibus.

This reportedly angered the driver who allegedly insulted the woman further on social media.

The matter was the reported to the police.

On Friday Lewis was granted $10,000 bail and is expected to return to court on September 17, 2018 for trial.
