Miner stabbed to death during drinking spree at Mabaruma

A drinking spree turned tragic for 43-year-old Elroy Marks of Aruka River, North West District (NWD) and formerly of Dartmouth Essequibo Coast after he was stabbed to death on Saturday at Kumaka Waterfront, Mabaruma, NWD.

Based on reports receive, the now dead man and a colleague were consuming alcohol at a popular shop at Kumaka Waterfront, Mabaruma when an argument broke out between them. This quickly escalated into a fight during which the suspect armed himself with a broken beer bottle and dealt Marks a stab wound to the left side neck.

As a result, the victim collapsed and started to bleed profusely as the suspect escaped. Marks was picked up and taken to the Mabaruma Hospital where he was seen by a doctor and admitted a patient. However, Marks died while undergoing an emergency surgery.

His body is at the Mabaruma Hospital Mortuary awaiting post mortem. Meanwhile, police acting on information arrested the suspect at his Hotoqui Village, NWD home. He is being processed for court.
