A 59-year-old miner is now dead following a boat accident on Tuesday evening along Karimap Creek, St. Monica, Upper Pomeroon River, Essequibo Coast, Region Two.
The deceased is Lennox Smith, also called “Uncle Becks,” of Kabakaburi Mission, Upper Pomeroon River, Essequibo Coast.
Based on information received, on the day in question at about 16:30h, the now -deceased man , along with ten other passengers , departed the Charity Waterfront in a wooden balahoo powered by a 200HP Yamaha outboard engine.
The man’s daughter, Kamila , told police that they did not stop home at Arpiaco but went to St. Monica instead, and upon arrival at St. Monica at about 17:15h, they exited the boat, leaving her father and one Navin Hendricks behind.
She recalled Hendricks asking her father to drive the boat , to which he agreed, and they headed out into the Pomeroon River.
She further stated that she was at her family’s residence when a relative informed her of the accident and that her father was missing.
This prompted a search for the missing man. At the home of Hendricks, the missing man’s boat was seen docked at his landing with branches and leaves inside.
Attempts to contact Hendricks proved futile. Nevertheless, Smith’s body was pulled from the Pomeroon River in the vicinity of Karimap Creek, St. Monica, Upper Pomeroon River.
Bloodshot marks were reportedly seen on the right side of the face of the deceased, and blood was seen oozing from his mouth and ears.
Meanwhile, Hendricks was arrested , and he is assisting with investigations.
