‘Michael Jackson’ on $100,000 bail for larceny charges

A labourer was on Tuesday granted bail when he appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts slapped with two charges of larceny.

Michael Jackson, of Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) pleaded not guilty to the charges which read that on February 27, 2016 at Third Avenue, Bartica, he entered the dwelling of Narconi DeJesus Somza DaSilva and stole $700,000, property of Gilbert Romel Colmenarez. The second charge read that on the same day, he entered the dwelling house of Narconi DeJesus Somza DaSilva and stole $200,000.

Attorney Peter Hugh, who is representing the defendant, in a bail application told the court that the defendant was working for the Virtual Complainant (VC) as a handyman and was staying in a room at the said property.

He added that two rooms were broken into and items were taken. Hugh stated that at the time of the incident, the defendant was asleep and as such, could not have committed the crime. The lawyer further stated that while his client was sleeping in the said dwelling place, Police Officers knocked on his door and then arrested him after accusing him of stealing the items.

Police Prosecutor Deniro Jones asked for substantial bail as the money has not been recovered.
Magistrate McLennan placed the defendant on Gy100,000 bail. The case will continue at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court on March 16.

    They dont operate alone- they always have accomplices to pass the loot over to so nothing can be found on them– see how they operate around Demic and Stabroek market. They snatched your stuff and in a blink of an eye pass it on the those that have stalls there as a front for committing crimes.
