Media fraternity mourns death of veteran Journalist

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Members of media were thrown into a state of shock on Saturday, November 21, 2015 upon learning of the death of veteran journalist and former Editor – in – Chief of the Guyana Chronicle Newspaper, Raschid Osman.

iNews understands that Mr Osman died in his sleep last night at his Bent Street home, Georgetown. According to reports, he was at work on Friday, November 20 and in good spirits, before leaving to cover an assignment at the National Culture Centre.

In expressing condolences to the family, Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo in a statement described Mr Osman as a “towering figure in Guyanese media and in the arts. His loss is an enormous blow to these fraternities and to the Guyanese society. Unfailingly committed to his work and to the arts, Osman leaves a rich legacy for young journalists to emulate.”

According to the Prime Minister, “His arts reviews were par excellence as was his work in radio. On behalf of the Cabinet and the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana I express deepest condolences to his wife Yvonne, daughter Ruth and all his relatives and friends.”
