Mazaruni inmate “missing”, was transferred from Camp Street

A 31-year-old Mazaruni prisoner was discovered missing on Wednesday following a visit to the Mazaruni Prison Farm, Prison Director, Gladwin Samuels has confirmed.

Vijay Sanchara- fugitive suspected to be on the run

The fugitive has been identified as Vijay Sanchara who was residing at Wakenaam, Moriah’s Pleasure, at the time of his arrest for wounding with intent.

He was reportedly sentenced to 7 years imprisonment.

Based on information received, it was during a roll call after returning from the farm that Prison Officers became aware that Sanchara was not among the prisoners.

The prisoner- who remains at large- was one who was initially held at the Camp Street Prison, but after the July 9 Prison fire, he was transferred to the Lusignan Holding area then subsequently to the Mazaruni Prison.

A search for the 31-year-old has been launched.
