Man’s body fished out of canal

Police in Berbice are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death a 37-year-old man whose body was Thursday morning fished out of a canal.

Dead is Seeram Khemraj, aka “Blackie”, of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice (WCB).

His body was found in a canal adjacent to Number 27 Village, WCB.

Reports are that Khemraj left home on Monday for the backdam.

On Wednesday afternoon, Khemraj’s sister Tina said she received a call informing her that her brother had drowned.

The explanation given was that Khemraj was working on one side of the canal at Tiger Island while another employee was on the other side.

Khemraj was reportedly finished with his tasked and had attempted to cross the canal to assist his colleague.

He reportedly fell into the canal. Reports are that his body was submerged in the murky water and persons were unable to find him.

On Thursday, the search parties continued their efforts and the man’s body was eventually discovered.

The body is currently at the Fort Wellington Hospital awaiting a post-mortem examination.

The investigation continues.
