Man who burnt wife, four children to death dies at GPHC

[www.inewsguyana.com] – Police say at about 03:20hrs today (Friday, March 28), 50 – year – old Linus La Cruz of Port Kaituma, North West District, succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital where he had been admitted, suffering from burns to his body.

Linus La Cruz was the suspect in the deaths of his wife Lurlene La Cruz and four of their children who perished in a fire at their home on March 14.

He was flown to the city days after the incident and admitted to the GPHC and was under police guard.

Police a day after the incident had said that at about 20:45hrs on Friday, March 14 ranks responded to a report made by a 12 – year – girl at the Port Kaituma Station that her father and mother were involved in an argument and he had threatened to burn down their house at Main Road, Port Kaituma, NWD.

On their way to the scene the police observed that the building was on fire and suspecting that persons were inside. They attempted to enter the building but was prevented from doing so by a locked grill door.

According to police, ranks and nearby residents formed a bucket brigade but were unable to extinguish the blaze.

The charred remains of housewife 39 – year – old Lurlene La Cruzm and her daughters 14 – year – old Lea La Cruz, three – year – old Lavette La Cruz and sons eight – year – old Labron La Cruz and one – year – old Levon La Cruz, were later found among the debris.
