Man slapped with narco trafficking charge

A wanted man, who was recently nabbed by Police after being on the run for some time now was on Tuesday taken to the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.

Kennard De Jonge, 34, stood before the Chief Magistrate, Ann McLennan to answer to the charge of cocaine possession while aboard a Dynamic Airways flight destined for New York.

The charge stated that between February 1-2, 2016 at Timehri, East Bank Demerara (EBD) he had in his possession 1.3 kilos of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The 34-year-old man was remanded to prison. The case will continue on October 19.

A wanted bulletin was issued for De Jonge in February however, he was recently nabbed by ranks. He was a former bag handler attached to a local airline.

The drugs were discovered on board the flight when a colleague observed a small package hidden in the cargo of the plane.
