Man robbed by armed bandits while picking up son from day care


Police are investigating an alleged robbery under arms committed on a 29-year-old hot dog vendor on Saturday last in the vicinity of Stone Avenue, Blygezight Gardens, Georgetown.

The victim has been identified as Cleveland Chappelle of Company Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara.

According to information received, Chappelle had just left the Giftland Mall and visited the said location to pick up his son from a day care establishment.

The hot dog vendor recounted that as he stopped in front of the day care center on the western side of Stone Avenue –which runs from North to South- two unmasked men approached him from the southern direction in a silver Toyota 212 vehicle bearing licence plates HC 6513.

He said that the men exited the vehicle with guns in their hands, held him at gunpoint and relieved him of the keys to his motorcar PRR 8168, $35,000 in cash, two cellphones and a handbag containing important documents.

The suspects then fled the scene in a southern direction.

No shots were fired and no one was injured.

Thus far, no one has been arrested.
