A man who was accused of stealing from a church in Georgetown was on Monday remanded to prison for the offence.

The man, Jameer Shaw, was charged with stealing a TV, amplifiers, and other appliances from the Trinity Methodist Church at Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.

He appeared before Georgetown Magistrate Leron Daly, who read the charge to him.

The charge stated that between March 22 and 23, 2022, at Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust, he broke into the Methodist Church and stole a number of appliances, which were the property of the church.

They included a 50-inch television, valued at $120,000; a DVR, valued at $42,000; an amplifier valued at $45,000; another amplifier valued at $40,000; a hard drive worth $24,000, and two wall fans worth $30,000.

The man pleaded not guilty but the prosecutor objected to bail. As a result, Shaw was remanded to prison until April 25.
