[www.inewsguyana.com] – William Baptiste of East La Penitence Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was granted $15,000 bail by Magistrate Geeta Chandan-Edmond for assaulting his nephew.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence on Monday, March 24, which alleged that on Wednesday, March 19 he unlawfully assaulted Ojay Vallet.

Police Prosecutor, Jomo Nichols told the Court that on the day in question, the defendant became annoyed after his nephew fell asleep leaving the television on.  He allegedly used indecent language against Vallet and dealt him ten lashes across his back with a cutlass.

The Prosecutor successfully objected to bail on the grounds that both parties reside at the same address and if granted bail Baptiste may tamper with the witness.

Bail was  granted and  the case was put off to April 14.
