A man, whose identity is unknown, has reportedly committed suicide, after attempting to strangle a woman in the Shack Inn and Bar on Norton Street, Georgetown this morning , September 11.
According to a Room Aid at the establishment, Simone Johnson, the man who is of African descent and appears to be in his early 30’s, booked the room around 08:30hrs along with a woman who appeared to be much younger than the man, also of African descent.
Johnson told iNews that approximately fifteen minutes later, they heard a loud sound coming from the room where the duo occupied, but before the sounds could have been investigated, the woman came running out of the room screaming “he tried to choke me!”
The Room Aid said she immediately called the police during which time the man locked himself in the room. When the police arrived, they were forced to break down the door, after which the gruesome discovery was made.
It is believed that the man drank a poisonous substance and also attempted to slit his own throat.
Johnson, who said she was very scared during the unfolding of the ordeal, related that since the Shack Inn and Bar was opened in the 80’s, this is the first time such an incident has occurred at the establishment. The woman is assisting police with ongoing investigations.
