[www.inewsguyana.com] – Lionel Klause was today remanded to prison by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine – Beharry for the offence of attempted murder.

He was not required to plead to the indictable offence, which alleged that on October 25 at Kitty Public Road, Georgetown, he unlawfully and maliciously assaulted Saleem Khan with intent to commit murder.

The court was told by Police Prosecutor Michael Grant, that both men are known to each other and on the day in question, they were both consuming alcohol at a shop along Kitty Public road.

An argument ensued and Khan picked up a bottle and lashed the defendant to his face, after which the accused allegedly broke a bottle and dealt the victim several stabs about his body.

They were both taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) for medical examination and the defendant was later charged with the present offence.

The Police prosecutor said the victim is badly injured and is consuming food through a tube. Bail was refused and the unrepresented man will return to Court on November 14.
