Appearing before Magistrate Judy Latchman was 48 – year – old Andree Willy, a nail technician and 43 – year – old Chermisa Wheeler, a babysitter, both of St. Lucia.
They pleaded guilty to the offense. The court heard that on Wednesday November 18, 2015, Willy had in her possession 88 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking, while Wheeler had in her possession 298 grams of cocaine.
The Prosecution revealed that at about 08:45 hrs on the day in question, ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit (CANU) were stationed at the CJIA, performing duties at the scanning machine, when they observed the two women, who were both outgoing passengers on a flight Caribbean Airlines Flight, destined for St. Lucia, acting in a suspicious manner.
Wheeler also reportedly admitted the same. When asked by Magistrate Latchman, why they committed such an act, Willy said she wanted to make some extra money, while Chermisa Wheeler revealed it was because she was possessed by the Devil.
Willy was sentenced to 48 months in prison with a fine of $79,000, while Wheeler was fined $268,000 and sentenced to 50 months in prison.
